Wah Wah Bar Playa del Carmen

The highly anticipated, Wah Wah Beach Bar, to open Thursday February 2nd, 2012 in Playa del Carmen.

Back in September 2011 a Facebook page was created announcing that a new beach bar and live music venue would be opening in Playa del Carmen. They ran a contest for a month coming up with possible names for this one-of-a-kind spot, and on October 15th, 2011 they announced that Wah Wah Beach Bar was going to be the new hot spot on the beach in Playa del Carmen.Check out the photo gallery below!!

 

The top 10 names that were beat out by Wah Wah Beach Bar were innovative and fun, and were submitted by hundreds of well-wishers to the new project now called Wah Wah.

  2. Star Beach Bar
  3. The Riviera
  4. The Big Swell
  5. Casa Rock
  6. Rockin Ruins
  7. Tsunami
  8. The Sand Trap
  9. Rock Beach
  10. Backstage

Being that the beach club is owned by long time musicians they decided on Wah Wah due to its multifaceted meanings:

1.A Wah Wah is an effects pedal used by electric guitarists. Popularized back in the 70's and used in a variety of styles of music, it unfortunately also became a staple effect sound in most porno sound tracks.
2. Wah Wah is also a name of a song written by the late George Harrison on his All Things Must Pass album. Supposedly written out of frustration he was experiencing with Paul McCartney at the time.
3. Lastly there is some Mayan influence. Wah is a Mayan word for tamale and slang for food in general.

Originally planned for a December opening, as many businesses in Mexico experience, things got delayed slightly for varying reasons, but from the looks of things it will be well worth the wait. Boasting an extraordinary palapa, impressive stage, and GIANT projection screen, Wah Wah will certainly be the place to be on the beach. A wood fired pizza oven, expansive bar, run by famous Playa del Carmen bar talent, and LOTS of live music Wah Wah Beach Club is definitely going to make a splash.
