-Tequila Festival 2012 in Playa del Carmen January 26th through January 29th, 2012-

The first Tequila Festival in Playa del Carmen was in 2004, and it was a great event! Subsequent years tried to emulate the fun and crazy atmosphere of the first year, but it never was quite the same. In 2005 it was cancelled due to those nasty girls Emily and Wilma that visited Playa del Carmen. In  2006 and 2007 the event was disorganized and when a group of us went looking for the festival in 2008, which was heavily marketed by the Riviera Maya Tourist board, it was nowhere to be found! In the summer of 2009 it got canceled again, and we have not had one since.

So when we recently saw the new promotion for the 2012 Tequila Festival we were a little gun shy, but very excited! The promotion, thus far, looks to be very different from previous years, which is a great sign. First and foremost they decided to hold it during high season so if they cancel the event they are going to have more disgruntled tequila lovers=bad business. Second, they have developed their own web page with some great information, and it looks like there are going to be more events within the event than ever before. The Expo, food pairings, a lecture series, and music and entertainment seem like the perfect combination for a great time. We are cautiously optimistic as exact locations are TBA, but read on for more details and we hope to see you there!!!

Tequila Festival and Expo 2012 in Playa del Carmen event breakdown:

Expo:

The Tequila Festival will feature 26 tequila producers in Mexico showcasing their specialty tequilas and each house will be offering tastings and information.  

Each tequila house will have an expert representative who will be offering tastings, answering questions, and recommending food pairings with different tequilas with an affiliate local restaurant that will be on site within each tequila house.

This area is open to the general public:
•    Date and time: January 26th-29th: From 4:00 PM-10:00 PM
•    Ticket price: $10.00 USD - $120.00 MN. Ask for a local discount for area residents..

Restaurants:

Twenty-six Playa del Carmen restaurants will also be participating and in charge of developing tasting menus to pair with various tequilas, and each restaurant will haves an affiliate tequila house that they will co-host the event with.
There will also be tequila tasting and food pairings in four local beach clubs (TBA). What could be better than sipping tequila, eating delicious local food, and enjoying one of the most beautiful beaches in the world?  

If you attend the Expo you can purchase a tasting ticket at 50% off of the original ticket price.
•    Tequila and food pairings in restaurants: 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM
•    Tequila and food parings on the beach: 1:00-3:00 PM
•    Ticket price: $40.00 USD or $450.00 MN Ask for a local discount for area residents.

Lecture Schedule:

January 27th through January 29th, 2012 9:00 AM -11:00 AM with two introduction lectures: from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Space is limited; there will be 26 groups with 10 people in each group. Training will be delivered by tequila experts, and they will showcase various tequila products from a variety of different tequila houses.

Music and Entertainment:

Throughout all of the events there will be a variety of regional entertainment with Mariachi’s, local dances, and singing groups. A guarantee that this will be a lively and fun event!!
