Private Schools 2 Months ago Karma: 0
My husband and I along with our two children are looking to relocate to PDC this summer. I would like to know if anyone has information concerning Escuela Manuel Acosta Playacar? Also any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I actually do not know very much about Manuel Acosta as far as curriculum, prices etc, but I have heard that many parents have not been too happy there. What ages are your children? For younger children I would suggest checking out either Papalote or Ak Lu'um International. For older children I have heard many parents say that they like Colegio Ingles. Please follow this _link_ for a list of local schools that are located in the area as well as contact information. Hope this helps!

HI! My husband, my 2 sons (7 &4 ) and me are also moving to Playa this summer!
My husband was there and checked out the schools. His opinion was that Manuel Acosta is too traditional Mexican, and we want something a bit more alternative.
Colegio Ingles, is a big school with a good curriculum.
A friend of mine has her child in Colegio Mayaland and she highly recommends it, so we are going to give it a try.
There is a really good article on this website about schools, I found it to be the best guide so far. (the editor sent you the _link_)
I hope you find the school that fits with your family!

My children are aged 10 and 13. I went to Colegio but was not impressed with the staff, maybe I went on an off day? I will definitely look at the _link_ and will need to reinterview both in a couple of weeks when we visit. Thanks for the input!!!

When you say too traditional can you give me examples? My children are 10 and 13 and I have to say this has been one of the most stressful decisions!

By strict, I am comparing it to the schooling my children have had, they currently go to a Montessori school in Holland, its all about letting the child be a child and discover learning and there are no lessons given to the whole group, all the children in the class are busy, but each doing their own classwork. This has been great for my kids.
There is no Montessori in Playa, at least I haven't found one.

From what I heard about Colegio Ingles, they have a traditional curriculum, so for sure they will be getting a "good" education but they are very strict in what the children are allowed to do and leave tons of homework. (they also give the teens anti doping tests! But that's a whole other discussion topic!)
This might work for some children (and their families) but I think it won't work for my boys.
There is also the Papalote and the Ak Lu'um, these are Waldorf schools, (antroposofic) and it is a very interesting system (you can Google it for more info).

We chose the Mayaland purely on the personal decision that we think our boys will fit there and continue their love of learning. But... we'll only know once the schoolyear begins.
This is such a hard decision! We also hope we have made the right one!
