Police Enforcing the Law! by Kawt Widmi Pantzdown Well, it happened to me twice and thus it must be true…….. I got stopped by the coppers not because I was wearing a helmut, but because my passenger was not……… since when was that a rule? You see, here in Playa del Carmen, a helmet rule went into effect back in March whereby everyone who rides a motorcycle/scooter must where a helmet. So we all went out and bought token helmets to comply. We hate them because they are so hot and being we live in an perpetual oven, who needs to be more hot eh? Okay, you’re right, it’s more safe and considering the increased traffic, I can see you’re point so stop YELLIN already! I wear the darn thing okay! But passengers never wore a helmet. In 6 months, I have never once been stopped by a copper for a passenger without a helmet. What the heck? Well, like always, we find out about the rules after the fuzz enforces them. We don’t get a press release, a notice in the mail, etc…………. No, just a “Hey, Pull Over”. So motor cycle and scooter peeps, be advised, wear your helmet and get one for your passenger before you get a ticket, get your license confiscated, etc…… Apparently the law is being strickly enforced. Playa, it’s not a just paradise, it’s an adventure!
