This article is part of a serialization of Mari Pintkowski's
book: EMBARKING ON THE MARIPOSA TRAIL.
With the winds of winter at our back, we left our home state
of Colorado
to embark on a journey that led us south of the border. We were chasing our
dream to build a B&B perched high above the white sand beach and turquoise
waters on our newly purchased property in Tulum. We had prepared for over a
year for this step of the journey and were now approaching the Rio Grande Bridge for the border crossing.
The clock seems to have a
different meaning in Canada, or
the United States, than it
does in Mexico.
The clocks we use may look similar and have the same numbers, but the numbers
seem to have different meanings between the countries.
Meet the Woman Behind The Dive Company in Playa del Carmen
Tuesday, 26 June 2007
Meet Monica Hartlief; entrepreneur, traveler, and diver.
Like so many of us that end up here in Playa del Carmen, and the Rivera Maya,
we come from all parts of the globe and from all different back grounds, and that is what makes our area so wonderfully unique. Monica’s story is no different and she adds yet another facet to our ever growing international community.

Canadians Living and Traveling in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya
Thursday, 24 May 2007
Mexico, specifically the Riviera Maya, has been getting quite a bit of bad press in Canada as of late. We decided to get a Canadian point of view, and our friend Shawn Bandick at One Stop Real Estate volunteered for the job. This is what he had to say......
Hello everyone. This article is a little bit different than what
you usually get from me, but it is from my heart and I felt it was time to
speak out. Is there more crime in Mexico than anywhere else?
The Law of Attraction and
Living in a Playa del Carmen
By: Suzanne Marie Bandick
The
Law of Attraction states that what we think about, picture and talk about will
manifest or be attracted into our life. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Like the Law of Gravity, we do not have to see it working to experience the
result. The
Law of Attraction does not care whether what you are thinking about, picturing,
and talking about is good for you or not - just as the Law of Gravity does not
care that the glass you just dropped was an antique from your grandmother.
Mother's Day in Mexico is celebrated on May 10th so don't forget that special woman in your life!
Although
my mother passed away many years ago I always think of her during this special holiday.
I will buy a bouquet of flowers in her honor and smile in her memory. But to me
Mother’s Day does not only reflect a special day for the mothers of the world,
but it has come to be a celebration world wide honoring women. In early
celebrations mothers were honored specifically, but now Mother’s Day is
observed across a wide range of relationships. In addition to mothers,
grandmothers and wives, the celebration now extends to daughters, sisters,
aunts, mothers of loved ones, friends and any other women who play a mother-like
role breaking old traditions and creating new one’s.

We had a firm offer in July on the
sale of our house in Vail, Colorado.
The best month of summer had arrived, and we were not ready to leave the
mountains. We now had the time to enjoy
the lazy days of summer in our sanctuary in Vail with its little sand-covered
beach that Lou built beside streams and fountains. Lou got off the phone and
announced, “You won’t believe this Mari, but Ed has agreed to let us stay rent
free in HIS house during the month of August.”
First,
my name has been changed to protect the innocent. To the assorted 6 weeks of
company that we just had arrive and leave one after the other, this has nothing
to do with you and is definitely not about you.
When
we live in paradise – is it any great surprise company is going to want to come?
No, we expect visitors, but we always picture it will be way later – even years
from now – I mean you just moved here only 5 short years ago right? But no, they
wont wait, one day we all get that fateful call or email with the news that friends
or family are coming for a visit, then life changes.
Semana Santa
Holy Week - the week between Palm Sunday & Easter Sunday
April 1st through April 7th, 2007
Celebration is indeed the name of the game when it comes to Easter in Mexico. Easter in Mexico is a celebration of family and community alike and it is far more than one day. Semana Santa or “Holy Week,” is celebrated from Palm Sunday, (the Sunday before Easter) to the Saturday before Easter. Pascua is celebrated from Easter Sunday through the following Saturday.
