 Astrology, Healing, Yoga, and Metaphysics
in the Riviera Maya

Welcome to the first edition of a new
section in Playa Maya News! My name is Devata, and I am a Vedic Astrologer. I am from the mountains of Whistler/Vancouver
and have lived here in Playa del Carmen since November, 2007. I have taken the time to slowly implement
myself into the local culture, and I am now ready to contribute.
My intention with this column is to educate, inform and create community. I have been a professional Astrologer for 21 years and have diplomas in both western and eastern systems, but I now practice primarily as a Vedic Astrologer. For those of you who are not familiar with Vedic Astrology, this is the original Astrology that comes to us from India. I also have a background as a Massage-Hydro Therapist and Spa owner so both physical and spiritual health are a strong part f my foundation. Like many of you in this field, I also stay current on quantum physics, metaphysics and optimum living enhancement modalities like yoga and nutrition. I realize that there are many of us here who are local, and as from other countries as well, who are well educated in the field of alternative healing. This column is open and offered to anyone interested in helping us create a stronger community base for this area.
Please feel free to contact me for a meeting, or to share any information or event that you would like to have posted in this monthly column. If it has to do with yoga, healing, lectures, celebrations, retreats, or information from the health and spiritual side of life, send it my way! If we gather together we can create a stronger sense of community. Beginning in the fall, I will post a monthly meditation and meeting time for us to gather as a group so that we can get to know each other.
I especially welcome anyone that has knowledge, insight, or local beliefs, on the Mayan Culture and Calendar.
June 21, 2008-Summer Solstice Yoga- 108 sun salutations on a local rooftop gave me a good indication of the yoga foundation of our community. Everyone dressed in white and was into their own personal mediation as well as with the group, which created a magical feeling.
Astrology Review for July 2008:
Mars and Saturn are travelling together in Leo this month reaching a critical conjunction on the 10th. The fire of this intense difficult combination is fuelled due to the flowing aspect to Jupiter and Pluto , which are also in a fire sign. The energy is hot and persistent. You can achieve a lot during this period if you remain focused and disciplined.
The full moon on the 18th of July at 5:00 PM is in Capricorn and also Rahu. It is a great time to make big decisions that affect s your very foundation. Take the time to revisit your long term goals and commit to creating a balance between career and family.
