Now operating under the name of "Playa International Clinic", the dive medical team consists of qualified Tenders & Operators, Hyperbaric Safety Directors, Certified Dive Medical Technicians and Diving Physicians. But since the clinic's inception injured divers are no longer the only types of patients that are treated . Providing affordable quality healthcare to everyone, diver or non-diver, local or tourist, is one of the main goals of the Playa International Clinic. The clinic is attended by two physicians, who can deal with most types of illnesses and injuries, and are on call 24 hours a day. It features a modern X- ray department, has advanced life support capability, cardiac monitors, video diagnostic equipment, and a fully equipped overnight patient room. To stay the leader in healthcare in the Riviera Maya region, the clinic is constantly being upgraded. In order to better serve the ever increasing number of patients, a second consultation room was installed, with a third one to follow soon. The team of medical professionals has also been increased. It now consists of two full time licensed nurses, one Beneral Practitioner and diving physician as well as one traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon. The operating hours of the clinic are from 09:00 to 21:00 daily, with the medical staff being on call 24 hours a day. They were really good when I got a severe stomach infection. Everything was clearly explained in English, and compared to private healthcare costs in my country, the price was a lot better than I was expecting.

Don't waste your time if your issue is something other than dive-related. Although they've tried to expand their medical services to capture the large tourist population, they are sorely lacking in facilities and knowledge. The doctor I met with could not answer any questions I had regarding an allergic reaction I was having, and I left feeling completely dissatisfied with my treatment and concerned that my issue wasn't properly addressed and treated.
