Angel Notion announces 2nd Michigan State University Mission to Playa

Angel Notion, is Playa del Carmen'ss local charity for children and adults that are in need of medical services, while offering them a full range of alternative health solutions. Angel Notion is also open to the public 1-5 in the afternoons.

Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing, Michigan, U.S.A. has announced that it is AGAIN sending a team of doctors to Playa del Carmen to support the work of Angel Notion (www.angelnotion.com) MSU will be arriving May 8th.

This mission will include the MSU Speech and Audiology Team. Working with disabled children in the community and their parents. They will be performing their services at the new ANGEL NOTION clinic.

supplied by the City of Playa del Carmen with the support of Sr. Roman Quian. The clinic is located in the colonial Nic Te Ha on10th street and is open to the pubic from 8-4 Monday through Friday.

The clinic is an Alternative Health Clinic for the community. Providing alternative health services and courses, healthy eating courses, herbalology course, beginning nursing courses, beginners English, prenatal courses.

1st Michigan State University (MSU) Mission to Playa

“The last time MSU came in March, the community of Playa really came out and gave us a hand - including 50 community volunteers, assistance from Roman Quian, Ron and Donna Griggs’ church, local doctors, numerous restaurants of Playa and many individuals with a desire to assist their community. Clothing donations were also given to every child that came to the clinic.” LaVonna Redman, the clinic’s director explains.

Dr. Peter Lapine of the MSU team and Sparrow Hospital surgical team, Duane Smith, Head and Neck Surgeon, Dr. Andy Livingston, Physical Therapist, Larry Prokoff, Muscular Structure Specialist, Bill Detrich physical therapist, Michigan State University, their nurses, anesthesiologist all came to Playa on their own time to donate their services to the residents of Playa del Carmen. Together, with the help of our volunteers, translators and local doctors, the Angel Notion team completed more than 40 surgeries (Surgeries were also performed at the Medi Sur Clinic of Playa Del Carmen on a donation basis.) and treated more than 300 people in the community for:

· Tonsillectomies

· Facial Reconstruction

· Reconstruction of body burns

· Head and Neck and Facial Tumors

· Removal of Facial Moles

· Scar revisions

· Clef Pallet Reconstruction

Larry Prokoff (MSU doctor) assisted many in the community by injecting muscular tissue to relieve pain, as well making special shoes for children in need of orthopedic shoes and apparatus for bone and muscular deformities.

Leah Schneider, our clinic nurse, saw up to 75 new patients a day, treating amoebas, gall stones, high fevers. diagnosing cases of TB, some severe. All of which is making a huge difference in this small world.

 

 

Dr. Mari Martinez (local doctor) has offered her services to become the Doctor for the center. She also volunteered her time diagnosing patients, assisting in the MSU surgeries, managing the more severe cases and watching over the patients that had surgeries for any infections or assistance they may need during healing period. She is now teaching courses and treating patients in the center.

Dr. Dennis Mc McCullough from Vermont has dedicated his time to help with after care and guide us with his knowledge in managing a mission of this quality.

Roberto Zozaya, Volunteer Coordinator, ensured us translators and help from the community that made this project complete.

What a tremendous effort by everyone and was a huge success. MSU will be back again.

We also have another little boy, Tadeo Valdez Fernadez of the Ejieo, 16 months old, going to Portland Maine for heart surgery and we need donations to help fund his trip to make this life saving surgery possible.
