Hi I see here that you have some information about schools in playa del carmen, my ex wife is planing to moved there and she wants to put my son in escuela manuel acosta playacar and I’ve been searching information about it and I haven’t found nothing, I even searched for the website but I didn’t found it the only thing that I found was there e-mail, that I sent to get some information but they haven’t replied. I also want to know if you have some information about bilingual school in playa del carmen, because when I searched and the only bilingual school that I found was in cancun.
If you could get that information I really will appreciate
Thanks

Hi:
I have done some research and from what I've heard, the Manuel Acosta is not so good.
There are a few good schools, but I would recomend either Colegio Ingles, or Mayaland. Both offer a fully bilingual curriculum.
There is a great article about the different schools in the archives on the site.
Just search for schools.
I hope this was helpful.

Hi PDC girl... It's me again, the big Mayaland supporter.. well, I've changed my mind...
I did enroll my sons in the school and sent the registration fee... and 5 weeks later (after asking for it several times) I finally received my RESIBO (receipt, but with a BIG spelling mistake!!!) and in the receipt where other spelling mistakes... I was shocked. I don't prettend to be an expert in grammar and spelling, but for a school to commit such a spelling mistake is really scary. I started to question the kind of education my children would receive...
I really wish I could get some real feedback from parent whose kids go to Mayaland...
ANYBODY OUT THERE?
So I am now seriously considering el Colegio Ingles. I have heard only good things about it academically and I rather have my kids in a "strict" school learning properly, than in an experimental school wondering if they will learn to read and write properly!

So now I will wait until I am actually in Playa this August to make a final decision of which school to choose.

Have you made any progress in your research?

Just something to think about: although I agree that spelling mistakes are not the best way to "sell" a school keep in mind that the office staff that sent you your receipt more then likely are not the teachers! Often the staff that is running the accounting departments, or other parts of the administration, speak little or no English. I do agree, however, that the best thing to do is to visit the schools once you arrive.

Thanks for your comment, I can totally see your point about the administrative staff. It really is seppareate to the teachers. So I'll visit both schools before choosing.
It's so hard trying to figure all the details out long distance!

My husband, 2 children, and I relocated here from Florida in June. I went to see Manuel Acosta, Papalote, and Ysitatil. We put a deposit down at Papalote because the people we met with children there, really liked it. After many discussions we choose Ysitatil because it was more structured than Papalote. There is a set curriculum for each grade and the children are challenged. They still have computers, drama, dance, soccer, recess, ect. You really have to go with what feels right for your family. I know people with kids at every school mentioned, and children are bright, successful, and enjoying being kids.
