That’s the vibe at Narguila - Playa del Carmen’s trendiest of the trend spots for friends, locals, lovers, tourists, and people in the zone, Narguila’s is thee place to be, the place to share that beat of love.

A place to sit at the bar or lounge in the Arabian Modern Minimalist floor pillows, Narguila has the ambience of Europe, the Middle East, and New York City all rapped into one and it’s here in Playa.

Located on the second floor in the brand new Plaza Paseo, the Narguila Lounge is owned and managed by the lovely and effervescent Ana Laura Lopez.

Narguila is Playa’s kewlest hang-out for the in-crowd.

For me, I call it my office. I love the tent in the corner with the lounge pillows. It’s a where I do my business. Of course, some call my business a bit nefarious, a bit covert, a bit out of the box and that’s exactly why I choose Narguila.

I can sit for hours and eat some fabulous mazza – that middle eastern style of eating whereby all share from a plethora of traditional gastronomic delights such as Hommus, Kibbe, and Babba-Ga-Noush while sipping on Apple Martinis.

Ana Laura, originally from Chiapas, grew up in Toluca Mexico just outside of Mexico City. She attended Ivero Americana University in Mexico City and obtained a degree in Law. Practicing Environmental representing the United Nations, Ana found herself immersed in a great career.

Then, here brother came calling. You see, he went on a trip to the Middle East to find their family’s roots – Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Egypt, and more………..he came back enriched with the experience that inspired the creation of Narguila.

The first one started and remains in Mexico City – in the high end Inter Lomas area of town. Two years going strong to capacity crowds, he called in his sister to expand the success and that’s where Ana Laura arrived on the scene.

“We decided on Playa del Carmen as it has the most forward looking attitude in Mexico and plus, who can resist the Playa life” says a thrilled Ana Laura. “It also helped that the owner of Plaza Paseo is one of their best clients in Mexico City”.

“We officially opened this our second Narguila in Playa in March of this year. We are so very pleased with the response.” says a smiling Ana Laura.

“From a business standpoint, the market is much different than in Mexico City. Here we attract both locals and tourists and thus we market to both. Currently we are promoting in local tourist style magazines such as La Quinta, local newspapers such as Novedades, and travel agencies here in Playa. So far, the response is great.” says a reflective Ana Laura.

Narguila offers a mixture of fashionable drinks and music that is a mix of lounge, modern Arabian, and even a hip hop slant on the weekends with their lounge DJ from Tobago. Of course, after a few drinks, you can work the Narguila and smoke their wonderful and flavorful tobaccos from the traditional and ancient Hookah’s that are it’s signature.

Narguila Lounge is located upstairs in the Plaza Paseo on 10^th . They are open from 6pm to 2am.
