Update from the US Consular's Office.

Information on the Security and Prosperity Partnership Meeting in Cancun, upcoming holiday hours, and fundrasing efforts for a sick child. Please read more below for more information and details.

All Consular Offices will be closed on April 13th and 14th for Easter.

Media sources report that several political parties and other groups are calling for demonstration marches in Merida, Cancun, and Chichén Itzá, on Thursday, March 30, 2006 to protest the Security and Prosperity Partnership meeting attended by the presidents of the United States and Mexico, and the prime minister of Canada.

Press reports indicate the demonstrations will take place in front of the U.S. Consulate in Mérida, Yucatán (Paseo de Montejo #453 x Avenida Colón), our Consular Agency in Cancun, Quintana Roo (Plaza Caracol in the hotel zone), and possibly the Chichén Itzá ruins in Yucatán starting simultaneously around 5:00pm on Thursday, March 30, 2006.

We wish to remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.

U.S. citizens are urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. Since the timing and routes of marches and demonstrations are always subject to change, U.S. citizens should monitor local media sources for new developments.
