Lawyers in Paradise? So you’re on vacation in paradise. It’s nice isn’t it? Being able to go on vacation in the Caribbean is a dream for many people. Those of us that are luckier still, actually live here. I live in Cozumel and feel very fortunate to be able to live and work in a place such as this. It’s really a dream come true for me. It has great people, beautiful weather, and the crystal clear blue sea. As you well know living at home isn’t exactly like being on vacation. There are issues that must be dealt with and the possibility of the dreaded “legal entanglements” that can sometime arise. You may have an unfortunate encounter with one of the many scooters flying all around town. You may be interested in starting or purchasing a business or legal issues may eventually crop up. When that happens, you’ll soon realize you’re “not in Kansas anymore” Some good advice would be to get yourself a good lawyer before you actually need one. As the old boyscout motto goes “be prepared".
These guys take a genuine concern for you as their number one priority; unlike many attorneys I have had the misfortune of dealing with in the past. They know all the ins and outs of the Mexican way of getting things done here and the right people to get it done. That can be just as important, if not more important than what you know. It took me a while to find that out. It doesn't seem to matter if you know the "right" way to do things, it's much more important to know the "right" people that can get it done for you. So, if your thinking about starting a business, getting a work permit, vehicle issues, tax issues or any other legal stuff that you need to deal with, then I would definitely recommend giving these guys a call. Rodolfo and Javier are good people that will do whatever it takes in order to make sure that the job is done the "right way".

Jersy adds the following about living in Cozumel, “Since I’m a diver, it doesn’t get any better than this for me. Sure there was a bit of an adjustment period when I first started to settle in, but it didn’t take long to realize that this is the place for me. I have also been really amazed at how diverse the culture is here. So many interesting people from so many different places have chosen to make Cozumel their home”. That being said, I think that I may be able to save you some grief by recommending a firm that I have had the good fortune of doing business with. Schonbrunn, Villalobos & Curwood Attorneys at Law is the name of the firm in Cozumel. They are fluent in English which was a big plus for me since my Spanish leaves a lot to be desired.
Even if you feel you are not in need of an attorney right now, it still might not be a bad idea to, as the old Boy Scout Motto goes "Be Prepared".
