Kiteboarding in Cozumel

 

Wild Wind Sport Championship Coming to Cozumel.

The beaches in the north of the island this weekend play host to Viento y Mar Cozumel 2007, a national Mexican windsurfing and kiteboarding competition. More than 60 riders from across the Republic will take part in the wild wind sports.

Mexican champion kiteboarders Sean Farley and Raquel Arroyo are both expected to show off with some spectacular water acrobatics. Raul de Lille, one of the event organizers, said locals and tourists are encouraged to come and join in the fun.

The former Olympic windsurfer and local kiteboard instructor, said that as well as the competition there will be Kiteboarding in Cozumelkiteboarding and windsurfing clinics, music, beach volleyball and soccer.
Competitors will be arriving from Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Colima, Baja, Campeche, Yucatan, Veracruz, Puebla and Quintana Roo. They will be judged on both freestyle performance and course racing, with trophies going to the top 5 in each category.

The event takes place from 10am to sunset, November 16th - 19th, on the Country Club beach area from the Melia Hotel to Playa Barracuda on Cozumel Island.
