Kiteboarding! Waffles! and Enchiladas! Wow! What a fantastic combination - an American breakfast, a Mexican lunch, and bit of air acrobatics on a surf board! Jeannie and Raul have the perfect mix for those wanting a little bit of back home flavor in the morning and some spice in the afternoon. For breakfast you have to try the Waffle Benedict, it is absolutely fabulous. I don’t know what’s in the sauce, but it is fantastic. The morning menu also has a variety of Waffles and other “back home” breakfast choices that are sure to please. After breakfast, you can hang out under the palapas or go down to the beach and go for a swim right there. Talk about a great location… They are right on a beautiful beach that has a great view and two natural Jacuzzi-like pools where you can hang out for a while. Stay as long as you like, Jeannie and Raul are glad to have you. After you’re done fooling around at the beach you might be inclined to indulge yourself with a nice Mexican lunch. No need to look for another restaurant, Raul will be glad to serve you up some of his specialties. Try the Enchiladas “Bill“, very tasty. They also have an excellent dinner menu and are open until 11:00 pm. Believe me, this place is not just another restaurant, it’s really something special and so are Jeannie and Raul. Back to the best of both worlds thing. Jeanie and Raul are the perfect Mexican/American husband and wife team. They have both lived in Cozumel for over 20 years and have been in business for 16 years serving some of the best food on the island. Raul is a fifth generation resident of Cozumel. They have three lovely children, Jazmin 17, Jadie 16, and Cody 8. They all help out around the restaurant when they are not too busy windsurfing and kite boarding. Sounds wild doesn’t it?
That is something I have yet to try. Maybe one day? I’m sure it’s a lot of fun, but these kid’s are more than just fun seekers, they do this on the competitive level. Jazmin has been an Olympic qualifier in windsurfing and kite boarding with Jadie right up there. I am sure Cody will be competing soon. These kids have been involved in competition all over the globe. They have traveled to Spain, France, Paris, Bangkok, and the United States just to name a few, in order to compete. Definitely more than just a hobby here! Well, how did they get involved in all this you might ask. Thanks go to dad. Raul is a six-time national champion wind surfer and a two-time world event Champion. Guess that explains it! Raul is currently pursuing his other passion, kite boarding. Talk about an extreme sports enthusiast…
Jeannie is also involved in a conservation effort here in Cozumel, to try to prevent some of the indigenous animals from completely disappearing from the island. Jeannie has acquired a parcel of land on the southern end of the island that she is using as a preserve area. Currently she has four deer, parrots, ocelots, and coati mundi, which were once plentiful on the island and are now rarely seen. She is trying to get a raise and release program going and is looking for support. If you are interested in getting involved, contact Jeannie at the restaurant or give her a call at 878-4647. They are located on Av. Melgar on the ocean side of the street just north of Calle 11. Look for the Palapa roof. Pretty hard to miss. Give Jeannie and Raul a try, they’re great people and have a great restaurant!
