Shopping in Cozumel

Visiting Cozumel for the first time can sometimes be mind boggling. So many shops, so many restaurants, so much to see and do! Where do I start you might ask yourself?

Well most people like to start with some shopping and why not? There are many interesting and unusual things to be found here. It is pretty difficult to decide where to go first. Seems like every couple of steps you take there is someone trying to get you into their shop to look around and hopefully buy something. That's just the way things are when you’re in a place that thrives on tourist business.

No need to get turned off and just keep saying no gracias every time you walk by a shop. Taking that attitude is not always the best approach if your really interested in getting some nice finds while your here. Unfortunately most visitors to the island don't have enough time to spend checking out every single shop they walk by. Since I live in Cozumel I have a little more time to spend checking out all the different shops and restaurants than the average visitor to the island. In my travels I have come across many places that I could recommend and also quiet a few that I would not.

the shop and ownersThis would turn out to be quite a long article if I started listing all of the places that I liked and disliked. So for now I'm going to stick with my program and only choose one for now that I think would be worth while for you to visit the Cuba Tobacco Shoppe. Hold on now; don’t let the name throw you off. Yes they do sell cigars, but there is a lot more to this little shop than the name implies.

Juan and Edelmira are the owners of the shop and are really great people to get to know. They keep their shop filled with some very unusual and interesting items that I’m sure you’ll enjoy looking over. They both travel to many out of the way places in Mexico and Cuba to bring back cool stuff for the shop. Lots of hand carved figurines, masks, jewelry, artwork and of course my favorite fine Cuban and Mexican Cigars.

ownersI have known Juan and Edelmira for some time now and have become good friends with them. I think once you meet them, you’ll soon discover that you have made some good friends in Cozumel that you’ll want to come back and visit often.

So, if you’re looking for some neat stuff and or some good cigars, stop by and see Juan and Edelmira and tell them I sent you. Their shop is located just off the main square on 5th Ave.
