Cozumel Scuba Repair

Cozumel Scuba Repair celebrated its Grand Opening on Saturday, March 18th, at their new location in Cozumel.

The shop, previously located at 5th Street between 5th Ave. and R. E. Melgar in downtown Cozumel, moved to its new location in November 2005. The new address is just one block off the Carretera Transversal and aside from its easy access it also offers parking, a difficult commodity to come by nowadays in downtown Cozumel.

Cozumel Scuba Repair Open House“We are very excited with this move,” Larry Cleghorn, original owner and one of the four business partners said, adding, “This represents a commitment to Cozumel.  We not only moved to a bigger location, we have expanded our business to offer new products and services.”

The other partners are Robert Valdez, from Texas, Mike Voltmer, from Iowa, and Javier Polanco, from Cozumel.  “We’ve been ready for this for years,” added a proud Javier Polanco, who’s been working at Cozumel Scuba Repair for almost 15 years. Cozumel Scuba Repair opened its doors in 1990, becoming the only certified Scuba repair shop in Cozumel and the Riviera Maya.  Well known and recognized by now as the place to have Scuba equipment serviced and maintained, Cozumel Scuba Repair has a well-earned reputation for efficient and reliable service and it is favored by locals as well as regular visitors to the Island.

The new products and services include Cozumel Scuba Repair’s own line of BCD, regulator, octopus and two-gauge console, Conquistador, specially designed for the use and demands of the rental market in this part of the world.  Elegant and streamlined, this new line is not only about looks but, most important, quality and reliability.  “The BCD has a three-year warranty by the manufacturer,” Cleghorn explains as he goes over the specs: 1000 denier, stainless steel d-rings, soft backpack and adjustable cummerbund. The Conquistador breathing apparatus is a piston regulator; a well-proven workhorse in the diving industry and the two-gauge console offers PSI and Bars and measures depth in both meters and feet.

A new concept to the store as well as to Cozumel is storage services.  Cozumel Scuba Repair is now offering storage services for Scuba equipment.  This is a novel idea and the timing could not be better.  Most airlines have lowered the free luggage allowance that travelers can check in to 50 pounds per back/up to two bags per person.  Charges for excess luggage and/or pounds can run from $25 to $100 dollars or more.  For the frequent Cozumel scuba diver, this service can come in handy.  Some have already taken advantage of it.  Who wouldn’t?  The cost is $100.00 USD per year and it includes a one time per year complete regulator and BCD service valued at $55.00 USD.  Charges for parts are not included.

Cozumel Scuba Repair Staff Other new services include tank hydro testing and wholesale and distribution of Scuba gear.  Rental equipment is also available to dive operations in Cozumel. It is no wonder that an air of growth and prosperity permeated the Open House, which was catered by the French Quarter Restaurant in Cozumel and attended by friends and colleagues of the diving industry on the Island. As part of the celebration a complete Conquistador package was raffled.  The lucky winner was Raul Omar Platas Baizabal from Bottom Time Divers in Cozumel.

Congratulations Raul and Cozumel Scuba Repair!
