PASTA LUEGO
The Freshest Home Made Pasta in Playa del Carmen!(100% Natural too)
He’s back!!! ………..After one too many road side stands, Typhoid, Salmonella, and Parasites, The Frugal Gourmet is alive and well…………………….
While visiting my favorite Italian hotel, I could not help but look at a bright yellow flyer saying PASTA LUEGO… Hum…Sounds good. I put on my detective hat and decided that it was time for an investigation. Would you believe the flyer had a map? I threw my wife and aunt into the car and off we went.....

Our Mystery Gourmet gives us the low down on Popeye's Fish 'n'Chips.
When you think of all the wonderful food to be sampled in
Playa del Carmen, Fish n’ Chips doesn’t immediately come to mind. Yet, tucked
away in the north end, Popeye’s, another endeavor from the wildly successful
Grupo La Parilla, is putting out some fine fried fare. For some time now, Long
Suffering Spouse and I have had a hankering for some good traditional, batter
dipped, fried fish. After reading several nice comments about Popeye’s, we
decided to see for ourselves.
World famous cook, Rachael Ray, will be visiting Playa del Carmen this coming weekend to film an episode for her latest cooking show; Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels, which airs on the Food Network.
Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels is a television show based on her 30 Minute Meals and her travels around the world (somewhat similar to her 2002 Food Network show, $40 a Day). She tries different types of food from each place she visits, and gives a "Hot List of Values", which includes some of her favorite places visited from the show, $40 a Day.

If you travel down the new trendy Italian north side of 5th avenue and grab a slice of Renzo´s Authentic Italian Pizza, then you have felt the vibe that is Playa del Carmen.

Beachgoers, Bon-Vivants, World Class Divers, Italian Rastamen, Socialites in Mayan Sarapes, and it just got better …….
Welcome to Kartabar - the new avant-garde restaurant and night spot serving Arabic Mediterranean Cuisine in the most exquisite and unique atmosphere Playa has to offer.
I was told by some local friends that this is the place to be - that Kartabar offered the freshest most unique food with atmosphere unmatched. My curiosity was stimulated. My expectations raised ……… Would this be the real thing?
When I walked in you could feel the love, the care, and atmosphere………it hits you with a “I just love being here” thing. There is something about it – it’s truly enchanting and it fits right here in the land of enchantment.
We were shown to our table by a fashionable young man dressed in traditional Mediterranean Arabesque garb. His smile said it all. The very hip and well traveled Jamil Hindi, the resident manager and nephew of the proprietor, Philippe Maatouk, greeted us with a wonderful “Marhaba, Welcome to Kartabar”..

Dine in a unique restaurant-bar within a real tropical jungle setting with the sound of a trickling fountain and a small brook running past your feet.
It doesn’t get better than this. This is exactly the way one would picture Paradise. This gentle and relaxing ambiance can be found right in Playa del Carmen at "La Cueva del Chango" (translation: the monkey cave). You will find it close to the newest part of 5th Avenue.
They are now open for dinner in the evening with New Natural Mexican cuisine; unique, simple, fresh and delicious. The ambiance becomes even more delightful in the evening with lights softly glowing in the jungle.
