By Arielle Thomas Newman Smoothie Plus Lifestyle Cafe Opens in Playa del Carmen. Torre and Mauricio Andrade, originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, have opened a great new spot called Smoothie Plus Lifestyle Cafe. In addition to protein and fruit smoothies, (my favorite is the Angel Kiss with strawberries), their bright air-conditioned restaurant offers salmon on a bed of mixed greens with quinoa, rotisserie chicken, soups, sandwiches, and a great vegetarian lasagna with a rich tasting, but light, white sauce.

Cheap Eats More bang for your buck at the Burrito Brothers in Playa del Carmen. Recently a large group of us wanted to get together for dinner out, but we didn't want to break the bank so we decided to try a new restaurant, the Burrito Brothers, in Playa del Carmen. We went in earlier in the day to let them know there would be between 10 and 15 people around 7 for dinner and they were delighted!

With their tag line reading “Bar and Restaurant with a Twist” Ula Gula will impress you with their original recipes and top-notch service. Although Ula Gula opened 4 years ago I hadn’t eaten there before last Friday. When a restaurant has survived the Playa del Carmen scene for more then a year there is definitely something to their concept. Argentine owned and operated, I had only ever heard great reviews, and when a friend invited me and the Web Guy out for dinner I suggested Ula Gula. We arrived and were immediately seated at a great table with a view of 5th Avenue perfect for people watching. The waiter came over with the menus’ and took our drink orders returning quickly with a tray full of perfectly poured cocktails.

The only traditional Mayan restaurant in Playa del Carmen. Upscale and beautiful it is a must try when visiting the area. Try the jicama cucumber salad, or the orange pork cooked in a banana leaf for a true culinary treat. A variety of Vegetarian dishes are also available. Reservations recommended
