The Playa Bomberos Plan Their 4th Academy PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 08 March 2005

HELP!! We are asking for your help and support to ensure we can host our 4th annual academy.

For the past 4 years we have had a statewide academy where all of the fire departments in the state of Quintana Roo come to Playa del Carmen for training courses. For most departments of the state this is the only opportunity they have for training for the year. It teaches our departments how to work together, to manage large fires, and to learn new techniques in fire safety. Last year we assisted Cozumel for the first time in our states history, and we worked side by side with Cancun on several different occasions as well.

As most of you know we recently had our elections and our new mayor will take office on April 10th, 2005. This leaves no one in the city hall with funds until after the 10th of April. Our Academy runs from the March 24th through April 2nd, and we have 10 U.S.A. firefighters coming down for the training and competition. Our non-profit organization has raised almost $100,000 pesos of the $200,000 needed, but we are still in need of help from the community.  If you can help with a small donation, or if you can purchase a portable radio, it would help us immensely, and in turn help the entire community.

 Our wish list:

  1. 10 hand held radios each 5 watts, 2 channels with no display. Cost:  $2,500.00 pesos each
  2. 20 hoses that are 1 ½ inches in diameter. Cost: 1,900.00 pesos each.
  3. 20 sponsorships are needed to sponsor a Bombero in the academy for 6 days. Cost: 100.00 pesos per day per person, total needed per person: 600.00 pesos
  4. A one time cash donation of anything up to $100,000 pesos.

We are excited about this year’s academy, and please know the public is invited at any point to come and check out the academy and training. It will be especially exciting on April 2nd   when we will see if our Bomberos will be the state champions for the 3rd year in a row!
