The Bomberos have had a fantastic year, and 2007 looks to be even more promising.
Hola a todo! We are having a great 2006. On
November 15th we had a ceremony at the fire house, with the Patronado
Bomberos de la Riviera Maya and Foundacion Bomberos Civil Protection Quintana Roo
I.A.P. in attendance. Two sets of keys were passed on to our Mayor; one set to an
ambulance donated to the Patronado by Calica, and a second set of keys to our
new Rescue boat. This boat is truly one of a kind at 29 feet long with twin
motors loaded with rescue gear and paramedic supplies; this boat is very high
tech and we have been working on it for the past year. Claudio Curioni, of Sea
Life Divers, has donated many hours to overseeing this project, and it has been
supported by many of our local dive shops as well. So thank you to Tank-Ha Dive Shop, Go Cenote,
and Extreme Marina, good job the boat is beautiful!
Along with our new (to us) ambulance
we will send an additional ambulance from Playa del Carmen to Tulum. Tulum will
now have two ambulances where before it was a community with none. Our Mayor
has been very supportive of our program, and is finding for more fire fighting equipment
and gear for our county. I’m finally ready to announce that we have made an
agreement with Sutter Creek Fire Department to purchase their FAT LADY Pumper
truck. It is a great vehicle that can haul 12 fire fighters with gear, and it
has 8 seats inside the double cab. We have been working on bringing this truck
here for over a year, YEA! Our second
piece of good news is that this week we will be sending $20,000.00 USD to
purchase 2 sets of Jaws of Life. Our department has been adopted by the
Emergency Services Foundation, and they will arrange for the purchase and
shipping of the equipment. Eight years ago we were given a 31 year old set of
Jaws of Life from the Yosemite Valley Fire Department in California, and they
stopped working just last month. We have so many accidents on highway 307, and
we use this equipment 1 to 4 times per month. Without it out of commissions it
is taking up to 2 hours get victims out of vehicles. With a little luck we may have
them here before Christmas. We have been raising money through special events,
auctions, t- shirt sales, and donations for over 2 years and we now have the
money we need. So thank you to all of you, and a special thanks to our
volunteer fund raisers. If you need us we will be there better equipped. I
don’t think I have ever said thank you publicly for all the support we receive
from our local businesses. I don’t think any department in the world has the
support we have here. Because of your support I love my job.
We will be starting our local Christmas toy drive the day after Thanksgiving so if you are interested in helping
please notify Lavonna at Angel Notion at: 984-100- 5525. This will be our 4th
annual toy drive with Angel Notion. Our first year we had 2000 presents, the
following year we received 12,400 presents, and last year (even after 2
hurricanes) we had over 17,200 presents to hand out! Lavonna has raised the
goal this year…. We are looking for 30,000 + presents for children and 500
presents for older people. With the support of our community we will make it. Last
I would like to mention that in the first week of December we will be selling
our Christmas C.D. recorded at Mojo Zone Studios, thanks to Brad, and the
singers Grady, J.J., Tim, and myself. They will cost 100 pesos or $10.00 USD,
and all money will go directly to the Christmas toy drive. Thank you for your continued
support!
God bless you all.
