6AM Emily near Tulum and Playa del Carmen PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 16 July 2005

Hurricane Emily slammed into our area just north of Tulum early this morning as a powerful Category 4 storm. It brought and continues to bring heavy winds and rain and it is punishing us with waves at our famous white-sand beaches.  We have no idea what is going on right now. A lot is blowing around. There's a lot of water moving around.  No one is daring to venture outside at this point.

It's still slamming our area as we are getting the eastern part of the storm swirl.  They eye is near Valladoloid now....The northern eyewall — where the worst weather would be expected — passed directly over Cozumel and Playa del Carmen.

As of 6am, no deaths or major damage immediately reported.  However, we are expecting light soon and as soon as things die down a bit PMN will be able to go out and take a look.   More to come.......as soon as we possibly can.
