New business in Playa del Carmen offers courses in First Aid, CPR, and AED use.
Latido de Mexico,
meaning “Heartbeat of Mexico” is Playa del Carmen’s first independent company
dedicated to training of CPR, First Aid and AED*
use. An AED is a machine that analyzes the heart rhythm and, if necessary, tells the user
to deliver a shock to a casualty of SCA. The shock, called defibrillation,
helps the heart to re-establish an effective heart beat rhythm. With this technology the survival rate can increase from 4-8% using CPR alone to up to 73% by using an AED!

Hands on management, and attention to detail makes this boutique hotel special.
How do a civil litigation lawyer, and business systems
analyst, from San Francisco
end up owning a small boutique hotel in Playa del Carmen? Well, as we all know
everyone has quite a story on how and why they leave the comfort and
familiarity of secure jobs, homes, and families, and Tony and Cheri Head, of
Luna Blue Hotel and Garden are no different.

Biostandard: An ecologically friendly company in Playa del
Carmen
I grew up in a very rural part of Northern
California, so recycling was just part of our community and
upbringing. My mom was so adamant about it that she would even iron, and reuse
wrapping paper! This being said, one of the most difficult things for me when I
moved to Mexico,
was the lack of education and the incredible amount of waste that is left in
the jungles and on the shores of our beaches.

Promoting the Community Gets Sketchy!
This morning, a staffer from Playa Maya News went to the new MEGA COMMERICAL MEXICANA Superstore that just opened up this morning on 30th and Constituyentes. Their intent was to do a great story on growth in Playa del Carmen, and frankly, to do a shameless promo for them; just because that’s what we do.

Do you think you know motorcycles? Do you think you have an adventurous spirit? Think again, from snowstorms in Peru, civil unrest in Argentina, and getting arrested at Machu Picchu, Eikka Huhtala has you beat!
Eikka Huhtala is the man behind the motorcycles, so to speak. Originally from a small town called Hameenlinna, located about an hour north of Helsinki, in Finland, Eikka has been living in Mexico for the past 8 years. In 1997 Eikka was offered a job with the phone company, Nokia, and it was based out of Puebla, Mexico. He decided to take the plunge, and move half way across the world, and although he only lasted a year in an office environment, the move to Mexico did stick.

Okay, you know how it is, when living in Playa del Carmen, there are always some crazy rumors flying around about who may have been deported, where the heck the Wal-Mart is going, and whether or not Britney Spears was seen at Captain Dave's.
So it is not surprising to me that there has been some pretty elusive information being shared about the upcoming shopping center and business park, La Gran Plaza. So I decided to do a bit of investigating to see if I could get the low down, the skinny, the dirt, the inside scoop about this monster mall coming to a jungle near you.
