Darcy the lucky dog is desperately seeking a permanent home.

You may remember reading about Lucky, the dog found hurting nine weeks ago on the beach in front of the Coco Bay Hotel here in Playa del Carmen. She was in dire straits with a broken leg and many other health problems.

She has now been named “Darcy” and she has been nursed back to health by some very kind doggie angels. Bill and Caroline, who winter here from the cold north of Canada, have done a super job as foster mom and dad to get this loving pooch back to health. They take her on walks a couple of times a day and accompany her see the veterinarian for all her appointments. They have given her a loving home, and made sure she is on a good diet and learns good behaviour. We will all be sad to see Bill and Caroline go home, especially Darcy who will not have a home when they do.

If you have an inkling that now is the time to get a dog, consider Darcy. She is socialized, and house trained; loves adults, kids, other dogs, and even cats; responds well to commands and is overall a very very good house pet. Darcy is full of life and love and wants to share this with a family who will welcome her in. And by the way, the chemo treatments have darkened her hair and she’ll be her usual honey blonde when they’re over.

She has been spayed, she is up to date on her shots, she has been debugged and dewormed and her broken leg is now healed. She is part way through her chemo treatments and will be ready to go by the middle to end of May. She can even go to Canada or the USA with a good health certificate, so if you are thinking of heading home, you can take her with you. It is easy to do; we do it all the time.

Darcy needs a fenced yard and an owner who will continue her walks, the highlight of her day.  She needs lots of loving attention and is very happy in the company of other dogs.  She’s a good watchdog, but is quiet and only barks at night when she hears someone outside.

Huge, huge thanks to the community that gathered around this dog when she was found.  All of her vet bills have been paid through donations from generous businesses owners and kindhearted individuals.

We would like to thank all those who have donated to her care and this includes but is not limited to:
