ADOPTED! Brownie the Dog looking to fly to Calgary from Playa del Carmen. This is a great story! About 8 weeks ago I received an e-mail from a woman, Jen, from Calgary, Canada. She and her family had come down to Cancun and Playa del Carmen for vacation. She was only in Playa del Carmen briefly and fell in love with a street dog who her nine year old daughter named Brownie. They gave him food, water, and love during their stay. On the last day they went to look for him to try and figure out how they could get him back to Calgary. Unfortunately, he was not in his usual spot down by Pummarola and Coco Beach, and they had to fly home. They located Playa Maya News, and our Adopt-a Pet section, via an internet search, and that is when she contacted me....
Being the animal lover that I am I put the word, and a photograh Jen had sent me , out on the
street that we were looking for this street dog. Quite a few fellow animal
lovers were on the search for this poor little pooch, but 6 weeks went by and
nothing came to light. Finally, I was talking to a friend of mine, who had

been in the loop, so I sent her the photo and information about Brownie, and
within days she had located him at….The Beer Bucket. He had hooked up with a local
Playa resident, Arnold, and his dog Taz, and Arnold was feeding him and giving him a place
to crash. So we contacted Jen in Calgary
and she was ecstatic. She had been worried and sad and was still thinking of
Brownie the dog. She agreed to pay travel expenses, and I agreed to get him jet
ready for his imminent departure. Next hurdle was to find someone willing to
travel with him, and this is when Don came into the picture. He was flying to Calgary at the end of
March! I put the ball in motion and found Brownie a temporary foster home for
the month of March (Taz isn’t too keen on sharing his owner), made veterinary
arrangements, and contacted Don about his flight schedule. Turns out he is
flying US Airways and they don’t accept animals on flights. Darn! I feel that
we have come this far, and so many people have pulled together that we can’t
give up just yet. So if you, or anyone you know, is flying to Calgary within the
next couple of weeks, and would be a willing chaperone, please contact us.
